Goodbye Naxos, Hello Corfu

So you know in that last post I said we weren't lugging a thirty-pound baby up any hills? Well, I lied, because I wanted to get a picture of Elowen at the Portara. So up we went! It actually isn't even very far, I'm just out of shape. But we got these gems!

On our last day in Naxos, we also drove to a hotel complex that was started in the 1960s but abandoned; it now serves as a giant canvas for street artists, most particularly the Balinese artist Wild Drawing. It was fascinating, but you have to keep one eye on the art and one on the ground--there are lots of large open holes in the ground that want you to break your leg.

We also drove to what is considered the most beautiful beach on the island, Agios Prokopios...but I preferred Aliko overall.

And finally, we took Elowen around Naxos to say goodbye to all of her friends--especially Helena, Angie, and George. Helena declared her the best girl of the summer, and Angie said that her "soft cottonball" friend was the cutest baby she'd ever seen.

It was a fairly stressful day traveling to Corfu, as we had six hours to kill between leaving the AirBnB and going to the airport...in the 90 degree weather. And of course our flight was delayed so that we were literally minutes from missing our connection to Corfu. Since Elowen went twelve hours without a nap, she was absolutely losing it once we landed and were driving to our AirBnB in Barbati. (Though she was a jolly champ up to that point...this baby was made for travel.)

Our AirBnB is lovely here too, though more basic--the selling points are the pool overlooking the ocean and the quick walk to the shore and lots of restaurants.

Since we were exhausted from that hellacious day of travel, we spent our first day in Corfu (the resort town of Barbati) kicking it, with lots of shore time and naps.

This is beef pastitsada--it's a very soft braised beef cooked in sweet sliced and tomato sauce. Delicious! We also had a Ferraro Rocher crepe and a bacon, egg, and cheese crepe with mustard sauce, along with fresh-pressed strawberry juice; and Elowen ate almost a whole plate of sardines. (She might not be my child...gross.)

And tomorrow the adventures begin!

  3. I love the art at that abandoned hotel complex!

I'm so glad that Elowen is a good traveler. She looks like she's having a great vacation! And if she wasn't, then I guess nobody would be.

    1. I'm dreading the flight tomorrow back but let's hope she decides to take her chill Grecian vibe with her. And the abandoned hotel was awesome!
